2021

26 August 2021 – Wow! It’s been a year since last entry. Lots to catch up on.

My Job – our company was awarded an extension on the contract, but they changed it to a telework position. I work from home and the government provides all the IT equipment including a PC VoIP phone number,  The contract goes to 2023 but I’m hoping it might get extended a bit more while the kids are in college.

Speaking of College. We got back a couple of days from our drive to take Sean and Melodie to Bob Jones University in Greenville South Carolina. Sean’s a Junior and, of course, Melodie is a Freshman. Sean changed his major last semester to Cell Biology. He is more interested in research than treating sick people. Melodie is currently majoring in Theatre and also taking music. She got a $1000 private music scholarship that she applied for. She will continue to receive an annual scholarship if she stays enrolled in music classes. We pretty much dropped off Sean and his stuff at the dorm, and he took off running. We spent most of the moving in day with Melodie and getting her situated.

It still hasn’t hit me yet that Ruth and I are empty nesters. I’ve been so busy, since we got back that I haven’t had time to think about it. However, we occasionally get reminded by our friends and family that we will be ok.

My dad – He will be 86 years old this December and has been battling cancer the last few years. He went in remission the first time he was treated for prostate cancer, but it came back.  However, God uses our circumstances to make us more like Jesus and my dad has changed much during this trial in his life. As a result, our relationship has improved and he has shed his worldly strongholds. He is selling his properties and giving his children a substantial inheritance before he dies.  I let him know I would use it for the kids college tuition – he liked that.  He also has a desire for us to visit as much as possible.  The day before we took the kids to college I drove them out to visit.  He was looking and feeling surprisingly good and did not seem to be in pain.
